A Private Holiday Evening with Geoffrey Baer at Glessner House Museum in Chicago!

Arts & Entertainment

Named one of the top house museums in the U.S. by Curbed in 2017, Glessner House was designed by noted American architect Henry Hobson Richardson and was completed in 1887. A radical departure from traditional Victorian architecture, the structure served as an inspiration to architects such as Louis Sullivan, Mies van der Rohe, and the young Frank Lloyd Wright and helped redefine domestic architecture. The house was built for John Glessner, a founder of International Harvester, and his wife Frances, a talented artisan who excelled as a silversmith and jewelry maker, pianist, embroiderer and beekeeper. A National Historic Landmark, the Glessner House remains an internationally-known architectural treasure in Chicago.

This private Inside Access from Chase evening at Glessner House Museum, hosted by Emmy-award winning writer and producer, Geoffrey Baer, will begin with a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception. Guests will be invited to explore the home, each room filled with many of the original furnishings. Experts will be stationed throughout to share Glessner family stories and history. Following the reception, guests will be escorted to the original coach house for a holiday dinner inspired by a menu that Mrs. Frances Glessner had once served to Christmas guests. Christmas decorations throughout will reflect the way that the Glessner's celebrated the holiday in their home.

Known for his masterful storytelling and infectious enthusiasm, Geoffrey Baer brings programs about architecture and history to life. During dinner, Geoffrey will offer insights into the landmark home and architecture, and will interview a Glessner House Museum expert, who will share anecdotes about the home and the significance of the family who once resided there.

Geoffrey can be seen regularly on the PBS primetime series 10 That Changed America which has profiled game-changing buildings, city parks, towns, monuments, streets and engineering wonders across the country.
